David J Wolpe gives insight into the conservative view on the Hebrew Bible. Having previously taught theology at the Jewish Theology Seminary of America, the American Jewish University, Hunter College and UCLA and is serving now as a Senior Rabbi, Wolpe is more than qualified to discuss not only the Hebrew Bible but also the present state of Judaism in the U.S. and nationally. Wolpe was recently voted the most influential rabbi in America by Newsweek as well as one of the 50 most influential rabbis in the world by the Jerusalem post and is well respected in many circles as a knowledgeable source in Conservative Judaism.
“The Conservative movement has many challenges and undoubted strengths. This theological conundrum stands at the heart of what is right and what is wrong. It is virtually impossible to study the corpus of modern scholarship and retain the unshaken conviction that the Torah is the literal word of God. There is too much in the sweep of other Semitic writings, moral questions, textual history, science, archeology and so on. Probity demands assent to the conclusions of scholarship that human hands left their messy prints on our Torah.” –David J. Wolpe
